JOSEPHINE RICHARDSON completed her three-year post-graduate degree at The University of Melbourne in 2015. With expert guidance Josephine cherry picked appropriate subjects from four different medical faculties. Her intention then was to discover non medication interventions for chronic disease. This naturally led her to her professional focus now - MENTAL FITNESS EDUCATION.

The purpose of her Masters’ program was to learn how to translate theory into clinical practice in order to respond to the service gap in traditional Western Medicine.

The service gap being:

  • A non-medication intervention for chronic disease including pain, stress, anxiety and emotional unrest

  • Education in brain and nervous system health so participants can self-regulate

  • A Preventative model for nervous system dysregulation

The core of her business is education in Mental Fitness. The programs she has authored and delivered are based on current Neuroscience. They are also based on the work of Fonagy & Bateman who introduced Emotions, Feelings and Mentalization as fundamental aspects of mental functioning and cognition. Her work also incorporates the findings of Stephen Porgess PhD and Deb Dana PhD and their approach to nervous system health. The Mental Fitness Programs offered rest on how we can be proactive in maintaining a high level of mental functioning which translates into mental agility, resilience and general wellness. The latest

program MENTAL FITNESS 101 opens with Me and my Molecules. Participents will learn tested skills required to condition and tone the nervous system and process emotions. It is vital to understand how to care for the system that cares for us. In this model the brain and body are one system integrated and connected through Neurobiology. Mental Fitness skills do the integration and connection.

To support and guide her endeavour, she has untaken examination with the Neuroscience Academy (Dr Sarah Mackay) who understands we can grow and strengthen the brain like any other muscle. The Mental Fitness techniques shared with participants are aimed at strengthening and balancing the brain and nervous system (an electrical system) and learning to process emotions (a chemical system). It is both a preventative measure and an intervention and is education rather than counselling.

Josephine has been writing and delivering Mental Fitness programs for seven years now. She is also contracted by the local Primary Healthcare Network to deliver programs to address chronic pain and stress, but mental fitness education, as a preventative measure, is her passion and purpose. She believes, with very good evidence that this is the next revolution in health.
